I present evidence that perhaps Sam has spent too much time with his Leapster Explorer and ESPN and Fox Sports during the last few weeks. Keep in mind that the NFL playoffs are in full gear... as well as the Rose Bowl and the Outback Bowl and various other football games that I should probably care less about but they somehow provide relief to an exhausted single parent of a boy who NEVER sits still (except when he's doing LEGO or Leapster Explorer or watching football). I used to pay a lot more attention to what the commercials were during football games, concerned that Sam was being exposed to violence or near-naked women trying to sell him beer. But when the baby needs changing or nursing RIGHT NOW I just leave the room to take care of her. Sam says "I want that" during every single commercial during Saturday cartoons, making sure that I understand how important the newest matchbox racing toy is or how every boy needs a pillow that folds into a pet. But he doesn't pay much attention to the commercials during football. Or so I thought.
Last night after Eva was in bed, I went to check my email once really quickly before heading to the bedroom for Sam's 3 books and a talk-about-our-day routine that we've been doing since Sam could talk. In the lowlight of the kitchen Sam sat on the wooden stool next to mine and said, "Mommy, can we go to gamefly.com and download a new game to my Leapster?"
Oh my.

Out of the mouths of babes. Commercials work and don't you forget it.:)
Yep, no matter how few they see, commercials deliver a powerful message. But we survived and probably watched thousands more commercials than our kids (back in the day when people didn't know better ;-)
