Prairie flowers and dandelion fuzz. Warm afternoon sunshine and bare feet on cool shaded grass. The smoky smell of a wood fire and distant fresh manure. A banjo and a harmonica and shaking gourds from the bluegrass band singing Sweet Jane. Juicy watermelon dripping off chins and running down forearms. Bright red strawberry slices and sticky fingers. Wood fired pizza decorated with fresh basil pesto and sun dried tomatoes and pea vines. Lucy in her campfire chair, serious in her focus. Arie's "Big trouble in a little shirt." Folding chairs and big blankets and tupperware and tote bags. Cold bottles of Spotted Cow and red wine in plastic glasses. Dutch peppermints. A flock of fluffy sheep pushing into the sloped woods behind the barn. Sammy imitating the 'buk, buk, buk" of fat clucking chickens. Lucy pointing to the furry bunnies. Arie shaking the fence. Children climbing gray molded plastic steps that look like stone. Wait your turn. A big yellow slide. Weeeeee! Again. Weeee! Again. Weeee! Again.
