Grandma's Hike

When we were packing up the cooler and the stroller and the backpack before leaving the house, we all got the feeling that TT didn't really want to come along.  And after we survived our 5+ mile hike out to Delta Point (with some hot sun and a little nearly-running-out-of-water and stroller-exchange drama), she admitted she had thought about turning around almost as soon as we walked around the barrier that starts the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge Marshland Access trail.  But she hung in there and became a force to be reckoned with, determined to make it out to the bench at Delta Point. 

 

When Zachary couldn't take much more of the annoying horsefly buzzing his ears and Eva didn't want to stay in the stroller any more, half our group turned around.  But TT was focused on the distance to Delta Point where we relaxed and took in the view filled with wildflowers and egrets while we munched on cheese and crackers and delicious quinoa tabouli from the co-op.  It was a long hike with a good share of anxiety as we worried about finding shade and avoiding heat stroke, but Sam and I had a lot of fun and made some great memories and we were both so very proud of TT.
